Energetic, open, fast, accurate and with lots of detail. Or what did you expect? It is, after all, a Cyrus. The fun factor is “off the charts”. When using the Ethernet connection, the balance is very good.
The separate power supply provides a little more ease and smoothness in the reproduction, a little more foundation in the lower regions and a little less sharpness with vocals. The differences are less than with the Classic AMP but certainly audible on a good system. They are the icing on the cake. With the Classic AMP, the addition of the separate power supply is a bigger step. In other words. With the amplifier, adding the separate power supply is a no-brainer. With the Cyrus Classic Stream, the difference is a bit more subtle. A better dac, like our Sonnet Morpheus, makes a much bigger difference.
Among other records, we used the album “Let it all in” by I Am Kloot to get an idea of what the Classic Stream is capable of with the separate power supply. With the power supply we notice more air between the notes, the music sounds more open which further opens up the soundstage.
Timing is also better now. The noticable freshness is still audible but it’s less prominent with the power supply. It’s smoother and a bit more round. But we mostly listened without the separate power supply and that works really well to be honest. There is always room for improvement of course but ‘What you don’t know, you don’t miss’… right?
For whom
Obviously for owners of other Classic components. Now they can finally add a streamer to their arsenal. But the Cyrus Classic Stream can also be a nice solution for those who want to integrate a little more fun and speed into their audio system. Someone who digs the Cyrus sound. Someone who wants to take a step up from a Bluesound Node. There are more modern streamers with more bells and whistles but they often don’t have the knowledge, know-how and pedigree that Cyrus possesses.
Hello Rems,
I lived with the Frerot for almost a year and from what i remember the sound is very different. More easy going. You can read my review about the Frerot on our site.
Best regards
Geoffrey
