We are receiving the black version of the Energy Acoustic AE109 (series 2). Our version comes fresh from the factory; that is, they have not been ‘burned in’. The result is that we have to postpone our judgment for at least a week. No problem: that’s the life of a reviewer. And to top it all off: after only a few days we hear that things are starting to look better. This promises to be very good.
Delivery and installation
A brief description of the delivery. The speakers are nicely and securely packed. There are spikes and if you want to protect your beautiful floor; some discs are also included. Very good. There is one thing that stands out: the spikes and the discs have a coating. And that can rub off. (Black stain on the floor). My advice, put felt pads under the discs. Then it is not an issue and you can easily slide the speakers into place.
The speaker can best be placed at some distance from the walls. This is the case with most speakers though. The AE has a bass reflex port on the back, so in this case it is critical. We gave the speakers a little toe-in. And also tilted a bit backwards. Which placement works best for you, differs of course: it depends on your acoustics. Experiment above all, and just listen. Your ears will hear when everything “falls in to place”.
The finish of the speakers is really tight and flawless! The satin black is a little fingerprint magnet but normally you do not touch your speakers all the time ;-). Unfortunately there is no white variant as there is of the new AE100². That would have been a nice addition to this line.
