For whom?

Who is this ATC HTS40 for? That’s a good question. We hear a few striking qualities: a clean and calm midrange, nice spread of the stereo image, and fine all-round performance. In short: film or music play both fine. These HTS40’s don’t care. However, we’re missing some low pressure and punch. A sub could be a solution for that. With a price tag of 2550 euro each, a surround setup with subwoofer and amplification is a serious investment. Fact is: for this on-wall solution you don’t have to make holes in the walls. That is the case with in-wall. That could be a predominant factor.
Conclusion
The ATC HTS40 has some nice qualities. Think of a good vocal reproduction and a lot of detail in the middle area. The speaker is also suitable for both film and music. We don't always see that. And that makes it a fine all-rounder.However, a subwoofer is recommended to give the bass some foundation, which is missing in our opinion. Also, the middle area is less direct if we compare it with the models we've heard before.
