BMC Audio Ultradac

For whom?

More and more dacs are coming to the market that unite multiple functions, making the position of the traditional preamplifier a bit… well: difficult. And even the separate headphone amplifier is threatened by products like the Ultradac. Why would you buy three separate devices if the level of integrated systems is so high? In addition, the ease of use of the Ultradac is ‘outstanding’. The standard remote control may look simple, but controlling the volume of both the preamp and the headphone amplifier is an absolute pleasure!

The ‘mute’ function works great as well just like the easy-to-read screen. If desired, this screen can be partially dimmed but this didn’t bother us. If you have a pair of nice headphones lying aeound you will rarely lack power and we suspect you will more reach for them more often then before (we used them a lot the past few weeks) because the sound is so addictive.

Conclusion

We did our best to find some oddities or faults on the B.M.C. Audio Ultradac. But it was in vain. It performs excellent accross the board. It is a very nice device that not only sounds great but is also a pleasure to use. The difference with other dacs in this price range is not shocking but audible. The Ultradac has its own signature and the reproduction is just right in our opinion. This device has pleasantly surprised us 'to say the least'! The preamp is excellent, the headphone amplifier is very good and the dac sounds great. So three hits in a row and therefore Alpha Approved!
