Measurements

Contents

We also placed the Golden Ear BRX in front of our measuring system. And with excellent results. The speaker measures remarkably straight. A little ‘presence’ between 3 and 8 kHz, but more brands do that to give some shine to vocals. The ribbon / AMT also does its work off-axis very well. The roll-off is visible, but it does not collapse. Which is good.

Distortion is low, but we do see between 1000 Hz and 3000 Hz that it goes up slightly and goes towards the 0.8%. Perhaps some resonance in the AMT? The low dives after 100 Hz permanently below 1%, which is fine for a monitor in this class. All in all neat scores. Especially considering the price!

Conclusion

The new generation of loudspeakers from the US continues to surprise us, especially the bookshelves. About a year ago the Revel Performa M126Be surprised us; and now in a completely different price range the Golden Ear BRX Reference. Spatial image, precision, speed; the speakers disappear and we disappear. In music, that is. It's special that such a small speaker is able to reproduce room-filling music, and with a lot of control. Because of its modest size and beautiful appearance, we estimate that this American will pass the partner test with flying colours. Highly recommended & Alpha Approved!
