Final verdict

We had a reasonable suspicion of what to expect. We were afraid that the extensive possibilities would be at the expense of sound quality. The Marantz Melody X has proven otherwise. Full of conviction, in fact.
It’s a true friend to everyone, a system you can do anything you want. The slight preference for music is typical for Marantz. The options for connection and playback seem endless. Okay there’s no phono input on it, but does the target group of a Melody X really need it? And if you want to… for a reasonable amount of money, you have a phono kick. Or it’s already built in.
The Marantz Melody X can be placed next to the TV and used for movies and series. Plug in a subwoofer and you get a great set for a movie experience.
The only thing we stumbled upon was the installation of HEOS. Not to mention the HEOS app itself. The Marantz Melody X is such a typical case: you miss it when it’s gone… It’s a system we’ve really begun to value now that he’s gone…
Conclusion
The Marantz Melody X is an all-rounder and everybody's friend. The Melody X easily plays hours of music away. It all listens pleasantly away. This is because the sound is just good. We can't notice anything about it. The chosen speakers, B&W 606, are doing their bit. What we do have something to complain about is the HEOS part, that could be better. We've noticed before that the app really needs to be better... That's no different now. At the bottom of the line, the Marantz Melody X is definitely a system that has earned its place in the market... ...highly recommended.
