For Whom
Contents
You’d better like black (and yellow) if you choose Arcam. That much is clear. But the deciding factor is will be their “house” sound. Because Arcam has a very recognizable sound that many people fall for. It’s amazing how well this speaker maintains that same signature sound. Calm and controlled. No-nonsense. The Arcam R25 is for someone who has some space and likes to play music at a reasonably high volume. That’s exactly what it’s designed for. This speaker reveals quite a lot but doesn’t mercilessly punish inferior recordings, thanks to its forgiving and refined tweeter. If you’re looking for long-term enjoyment, you’ve come to the right place.
Comparison
My Neat Petite Classics are physically smaller but “overachievers.” They sound quite big, but with their two bass ports, they’re a trickier to get just right. For me, that means placing them just a little closer together. With the Arcam R25, we notice exactly the opposite. They’re not difficult to position, but as mentioned earlier, they do need space. Put them at a sufficient distance from the walls and as far apart from each other as possible.
The Arcam R25 lets more of the music through than the small Neats and offers greater insight into the recording. The Neat is slightly more rhythmic and nimble, but the Arcam is a bit more dynamic. The R25 also plays much louder before distortion sets in. The R25 goes a bit deeper at the low end, but both speakers rely primarily on punch, control, and speed. If you have a small room, the R15 would the better choice.
Conclusion
"Yet another speaker manufacturer," I hear you thinking. Well Arcam isn’t just any manufacturer. It’s one of the largest and best-known British audio/video manufacturers and therefore already has a large customer base to draw on. Those customers will certainly be charmed by this new line of speakers, because now there’s finally a speaker that’s a perfect match for their favorite amplifier.
Other audiophiles will also be interested, especially once they’ve heard them. This Arcam R25 doesn’t impress right away but gradually wins over the listener. Anyone who spends some time with it will appreciate the Arcam R25 for its well-thought-out, mature sound that’s beautifully balanced. The sound signature is primarily neutral with a controlled and punchy bass. Definitely worth checking out somewhere nearby. Highly recommended!
