The Sonos Amp is easy to install. Especially when there are already Sonos products in the house. When installing, we can also use True play. That also remains a good piece of Sonos innovation. Within a few minutes we can listen to music over the T+A speakers.
The control of the speaker is good. We clearly hear different elements in the music. That’s definitely positive. We’re listening to Adele, 10cc and Michael Jackson. Here we immediately run into the Loudness of Sonos. Yeah, it’s fun for a party, but that’s all. Turn that shit off. The music immediately becomes honest(er) and we can listen to it longer.
The image of the Sonos Amp with the old speaker is good. We hear control over the speaker and various elements in the music. But we notice there’s more to it than that.
With the Focal sopra No. 1 and later the DALI Phantom 280S, we make a big leap up. The Focal and DALI are not simple speakers to drive. There must be a good and powerful amplifier behind this. With the Sonos connected, we decide to listen to the same music. Here we clearly hear that the Sonos Amp has found its limit.
The Sonos is audibly having trouble controlling the speakers. Just for the imaging, the speakers are 4000 euros each. The speaker cable is the audioquest Oak and costs around 4000 euros. Reasonable overkill. With 10cc we hear no difference in the elements of the music. It’s clumping together. With Adele’s voice there is no control and the voice shoots in all directions.

Then the new B&W 606. This is a great speaker. Be sure to read our review about that. The B&W 606 S2 is easier to control and falls into the Hifi category in terms of performance. When listening, something special happens. The Sonos Amp and the B&W 606 S2 turn out to be a golden combination. They complement each other.
Adele sparkles and Michael Jackson sounds like a smooth criminal. The Sonos Amp has audible control over the B&W 606. We want to listen to it longer and that is always a positive point.
