Of course it was expected, but now it’s official: the Norddeutsche HiFi-Tage planned for February has been cancelled because of the Covid pandemic. The Norddeutsche HiFi-Tage are always interesting for hi-fi lovers who live in the northeast of the country. The big event is organized annually in Hamburg. Next year they would be held at a new location in Hamburg; larger than ever before. The plan was to open the doors at February 6 and 7.
Everything was ready, including a large number of participating exhibitors. Then Covid threw a spanner in the works. Not only did the virus cause cancellation of almost all large-scale exhibitions, it will also have major consequences for 2021. The Norddeutsche HiFi-Tage is one of the first victims: the event has been cancelled.
Even if vaccination were to start in January, we would still be stuck with restrictions for at least another month. Hence this inevitable cancellation, more of which will undoubtedly follow.
High End Munich postponed
What’s more, it is often not possible to simply postpone a planned trade fair or exhibition. The organization of the Norddeutsche HiFi-Tage tried to set a date in the autumn, but that turned out to be impossible. The High End Munich did succeed in postponing the leading trade fair scheduled for May 2021 to September. But even then it remains to be seen whether it will be ‘business as usual’. There are still far too many uncertainties surrounding vaccinations, their availability and ultimate effectiveness. Chances are that at least the first half of next year will look the same as this year, with many restrictions and cancellations.
