Polish HiFi brand Unitra is attempting to rescue its struggling compatriot, the renowned loudspeaker manufacturer Diora.
According to an article on HiFi Pig, things are unfortunately not going well for Polish loudspeaker maker Diora. Last month, the company—employing 115 people—filed for bankruptcy. This puts 80 years of history and expertise at risk of being lost. But there’s a glimmer of hope: fellow Polish brand Unitra—previously featured on our site—has announced plans to try and save what it calls “one of the most important names in the history of Polish electronics.”
A Welcome Comeback
If Unitra succeeds, it would mark the revival of a legacy. Originally, Unitra was a conglomerate of various electronics manufacturers, active until the fall of the Iron Curtain—a common structure in former Soviet states. With its own in-house R&D department, Unitra also supplied components to major international brands. A well-known example is the Sanyo SXM-80 floorstanding speaker.
In short: if Unitra once again becomes a safe haven for multiple Polish electronics brands, it wouldn’t be a new role for them. They’ve done it before. And that could mean another strong “Made in the EU” story with a bright future ahead.
