The Nagra Compact Phono is inspired by the brand’s illustrious and near-legendary PL-P — a true reference in the world of phono preamplifiers.
Built within a compact enclosure, the Nagra Compact Phono features an extremely simplified internal signal path, designed to deliver outstanding performance with MC cartridges. Naturally, RIAA equalization is included. According to the manufacturer, the main challenge was fitting all this technology into such a small chassis without compromising the sound quality of the original Nagra PL-P. And they claim to have succeeded — no sonic compromises have been made.
Inside, you’ll find a 10 dB step-up transformer, while carefully selected transistors in a pure Class A circuit handle the rest of the amplification. The design is fully discrete and built in dual-mono configuration. Gain can be set to either 62 dB or 47.5 dB.
Although powered by an included 12V external supply, the Compact Phono also contains an internal power regulation stage featuring “ultra high rejection ratio” regulators combined with a two-stage filtering system.
The Nagra Compact Phono, released earlier this year, is priced at $4,950.
