Luxman is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and naturally the company is marking the occasion in style. One of the highlights is the brand-new B-100 Centennial monoblock power amplifier.
The new Luxman B-100 Centennial is a substantial mono power amplifier that operates in Class A up to 25 watts. Beyond that point, it transitions seamlessly into Class AB, delivering up to 125 watts into 8 ohms, 250 watts into 4 ohms, and as much as 1,000 watts into 1 ohm—although the latter figure represents peak output. For most listening rooms, however, 25 watts of pure Class A power will already be more than sufficient, meaning the amplifier is likely to spend much of its time operating in its highly regarded Class A mode.
To maintain maximum signal purity, Luxman has incorporated its proprietary LIFES 1.1 negative feedback technology. LIFES stands for Luxman Integrated Feedback Engine System, the company’s in-house circuit designed to minimise distortion while preserving musicality.
A high-quality power supply is the foundation of any serious amplifier, and the B-100 Centennial is no exception. It features a 1,250 VA toroidal transformer, supported by what Luxman describes as an oversized bank of smoothing capacitors following the rectification stage.
The amplifier is housed in a loopless chassis with an optimised internal grounding layout and a multi-layer base plate. Heavy cast-iron feet provide a stable foundation, helping to minimise microphonics and mechanical vibrations.
The Luxman B-100 Centennial will be available from September and is priced at €52,990 per pair. No info (at the time of writing) regarding this model at the manufacturer’s website though.
