IKEA has once again launched a new Bluetooth speaker, the Badruka. It is compact, cube-shaped and easy on the wallet.
As a home furnishings retailer, IKEA offers not only furniture but also a vast range of related accessories. Clocks, wooden spoons, plastic and real plants, meatballs – and speakers. In the latter category, its range varies from affordable to ultra-cheap. The new IKEA Badruka sits somewhere in between.
It is a cube-shaped device with a plastic enclosure. In addition to Bluetooth, there is an optical digital input as well as a standard 3.5mm analogue line input. Behind the perforated grille you will find a tweeter and woofer, driven by an amplifier delivering a maximum output of 25 watts, with a frequency range of 50Hz to 20kHz.
Two speakers can be paired to create a stereo pair, making them an interesting option for your desk or home-office setup, for example. Alternatively, you can go all out and link a whole series of Badrukas for a room-filling experience.
The IKEA Badruka is certainly affordable: €49.99 gets you one to take home. They are intended for indoor use – Badruka means ‘afraid of bathing’, which should tell you all you need to know. If you happen to be an average Swede, that is.
