British brand Ruark is celebrating its 40th anniversary, and naturally that calls for something special. In this case, it is the R1S in a Terracotta finish.
Forty years in the hi-fi industry is certainly a milestone worth celebrating as a company. And with a little thought, you can turn such an occasion into something rather nice for your customers as well. That is exactly what Ruark decided to do, resulting in a special anniversary edition of the R1S. What makes it special in this case is the colour: Terracotta. The standard colours are Grey, Light Cream and Satin Charcoal, so this makes for a nice addition. Bear in mind, however, that the celebratory colour is being released as a limited edition, so a little haste may be advisable. After all, it has to remain something unique! Also unique are the colour of the grille and an anniversary badge.
The R1S itself is a versatile and compact radio designed for mains-powered use. Under the hood, you will find a DAB+/FM tuner as well as streaming functionality. The latter not only lets you listen to internet radio, but also provides access to familiar music streaming services including Spotify Connect, Amazon Music and Deezer. Bluetooth is included as well, making the unit highly versatile.
For sound reproduction, an NS+ full-range driver is driven by a Class A/B amplifier delivering a maximum output of 9 watts. Physical connectivity includes a line input and a USB-C port. The latter can be used to charge your smartphone, which is always handy. And should you want to listen in silence, there is also a headphone output.
The Ruark R1S in Terracotta is priced at £319, just a little more than the ‘standard versions’, which cost £299.
