TP Vision, licensee of Philips TV & Sound, presents a new premium OLED TV, ‘The Xtra’ models and LCD Ambilight TV sets, all equipped with the new 7th Gen P5 processor.

The OLED+908 (pictured at the top of this post) is the new flagship of Philips televisions, featuring the latest META OLED panel with the added power of the 7th Gen P5 AI processor, an integrated Bowers & Wilkins sound system and a three-sided next level Ambilight system. TP Vision: ‘All combined, the premium TV offers a unique immersive viewing experience of exceptionally high quality. The new META OLED panel uses a Micro Lens Array layer and a META brightness enhancement algorithm to provide a potential peak light strength output of 2,100 Nits, a 70% increase, while also offering a wider viewing angle and improved energy efficiency’.

New processor

The 7th generation P5 AI processor offers an enhanced V2 version of Ambient Intelligence that enables real-time adjustment of the display’s brightness, gamma and color response to ensure optimal performance matched to ambient light. ‘The V2 version of Ambient Intelligence utilizes a new XYZ light sensor that can now measure the color temperature of the light in the viewing room, so that the white point of the display corresponds exactly to the real-time hue of the ambient lighting in the room. An enhanced Super Resolution feature also provides exceptional edge-to-edge sharpness while creating rich detail in most of the enhanced screen object’, the manufacturer said.

Sound quality

We read further in the announcement: ‘The sound quality matches the exceptional picture quality thanks to the 3.1, 80W Bowers & Wilkins sound system, with six front-mounted drivers that focus directly on the listener in a special LCR arrangement (left, center, right). This provides extra-wide sound with crystal-clear dialogue. Deep, precise bass is delivered by a large, rear-mounted subwoofer supported by four passive radiators’.

Google TVOS

As with all 2023 OLED Ambilight TVs, the OLED+908 will feature the new Google TVOS, which the manufacturer says is ‘a refined and more advanced version of the existing Android TV experience with a more intuitive interface and home screen, now placing more emphasis on personalized content and customized recommendations. Google TV has been added to the Ambilight 2023 series, with a new, more intuitive user interface that provides easier access to key settings and features while offering less on-screen menu overlay’.

Matching Kvadrat Audiomix

The minimalist design of the OLED+908 features a super-thin, dark metal bezel to match the dark Kvadrat Audiomix fabric speaker grill and with a new black gloss metal open-frame stand. The OLED+908 comes with a new remote control with a rechargeable battery (via USB-C), a new “123” hotkey to turn the backlight on and off, and a motion sensor to detect when the remote is lifted and activate the backlight.

The Philips OLED+908 is available this fall in 55″, 65″ and 77″ sizes.

OLED808 – Enhancing the premium OLED range

The OLED808 series will be expanded to include a 42-inch screen size, in addition to the existing 48-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch sizes. The OLED808 series also offers the power of the new 7th generation P5 AI – with Ambient Intelligence V2 and the new Super Resolution features – and includes powerful1000 Nits OLED_EX panels, for screen sizes of 55-inches and larger. ‘The OLED808 – and all OLED series from 2023 – offers outstanding, advanced gaming performance with the addition of Dolby Vision 4K 120Hz compatibility to HDMI 2.1 e-Arc, VRR support for 4K from 40Hz to 120Hz at a full 48Gbps (444, 12 bit) bandwidth, FreeSync Premium and G-SYNC compatibility plus Auto Game and Auto-Low-Latency modes,’ TP Vision announced.

Sound

The manufacturer continues: ‘Excellent sound quality remains a highlight of the range thanks to an integrated 70W 2.1 sound system – 50W for the 42″ – with a more precise digital crossover. This precisely controls distribution to the two-way left and right speakers, the dedicated triple ring and rear-facing bass driver – supported by four passive radiators’.

Elegant

The OLED808 has a razor-thin bezel-less design and a dark metal frame on the outside, which allows seamless connection to the more advanced and powerful Next Gen three-way Ambilight system, with more color detail and accuracy, creating what the manufacturer says is the most immersive viewing experience. Most versions of the OLED808 feature a new central, elegant EVO satin chrome swivel stand, with the sole exception of the 77-inch model that uses new metal, flat satin chrome legs. The Google TV OS and new user interface should provide a simpler and more personalized user experience.

The Philips OLED808 will be available in 42”, 48”, 55”, 65” and 77” from May 2023.
