The newly introduced Garmin JL Audio Pavilion subwoofers are designed for in-wall installation and require no dedicated enclosure to perform their task.
Garmin? Indeed. The American navigation specialist has also become an audio company, thanks to its acquisition of JL Audio in 2023. It took some time before truly new products emerged from the Garmin stable, but earlier this year the company unveiled the JL Audio Primacy, a premium active loudspeaker system with a host of advanced features.
Now the Americans are expanding into another market segment: custom installation audio. For that purpose, the slim JL Audio Pavilion has been developed. The Pavilion is an 8-inch in-wall subwoofer designed to fit directly into a wall cavity. With a required mounting depth of just 3.8 inches, no dedicated enclosure is necessary. According to the manufacturer, this makes the subwoofer easy to install virtually anywhere in the home. Garmin has also incorporated a mounting system that eliminates the need for a traditional rear enclosure or back box.
Suitable for Indoor and Outdoor Use
Garmin states that the Pavilion subwoofers are exceptionally durable, thanks in part to the use of marine-grade materials. As a result, they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Inside, the subwoofer employs JL Audio’s proprietary Concentric Tube Suspension system. According to the manufacturer, this technology enables the compact design without compromising premium sound performance.
Each Pavilion subwoofer is supplied with a magnetic grille. Buyers can choose between round and square grille designs, depending on personal preference and installation requirements.
The Garmin JL Audio Pavilion subwoofer carries a retail price of $1,000. At the time of writing, Garmin has not yet announced whether or when the product will become available outside the United States.
