Topping DX9 DAC, preamp and headphone amplifier

The Topping DX9 immediately stands out thanks to its transparent glass top panel, offering a clear view of the internal components.

A nice touch for the more technically inclined audiophile. The hardened glass top of the Topping DX9 not only reveals the internals, but also features markings and labels so you can see exactly what’s what. Beyond its looks, the unit functions as a DAC, preamplifier and headphone amplifier in one. For dedicated headphone listeners, the DX9 can serve as a complete all-in-one solution.

D/A conversion is handled by Topping’s patented PSRM (Precision Stream Reconstruction Matrix) converter, based on a 1-bit architecture. It uses a variation on delta-sigma conversion that is unique to the manufacturer. Combined with an ultra-low-noise power supply and carefully designed circuitry, this results in a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 131 dB.

Versatile

The Topping DX9 supports PCM up to 32-bit / 768 kHz via USB and I2S, as well as native DSD up to DSD512. Despite its compact size, the unit offers a wide range of inputs, including XLR, HDMI, AES and I2S. Bluetooth support is also included, adding further flexibility. Each input is handled by its own dedicated chipset, optimized for its specific function.

The headphone amplifier section provides 6.35 mm, 4.4 mm and 4-pin XLR outputs. Maximum output power reaches 7080 mW per channel into 32 ohms. A parametric equalizer allows users to tailor the sound to their personal preferences.

The Topping DX9 is priced at £1,299.
