The Sound

Contents

The Dynaudio Emit 10 are on the supplied matching speaker stands (Stand 10) very slightly dialed in to the listening position. The Arcam SA30 is warmed up, Qobuz is playing via Roon and we start the album Tenet with the dynamic track “747”.

A large soundstage unfolds with a very wide sweetspot. For such small speakers, it goes deeper than we expected. And the volume is only at 25%! Many details are perceptible and we notice no sharpness which is sometimes different with some other speakers – especially in this price range.

A bit compressed

The only point of criticism is that we hear compression more quickly and it quickly becomes messy with very busy passages. Dynaudio themselves recommend playing with this speaker in a room size up to 15m2, now your editor is playing in a room of 60m2 and yes… this is noticeable. We may have to play a bit too loud for this compact bookshelf. The deep bass that the speaker does offer is lost in the room. Ideally, you play with this juggernaut in a room of max 20-25m2 and with a powerful amplifier you really don’t need “more”.

Balls

What is positively striking when playing this track is the balls with which these small speakers can play. It’s really quite impressive how much pressure they offer and with how much body they offer the track. It’s a substantial sound and we suspect that while it may not be the “best” choice for movies, it plays very nicely for most genres of music.

We play Agnes Obel – The Curse. The track is intimate, huge and especially in width and height. You can almost feel the strings so much texture it has. Her voice is beautifully centered and is palpably fragile. When we switch to Save your tears remix – The Weekend ft Arianne Grande the track comes in nice and deep which really suits this song. It sounds really lovely. We can’t say anything else.

Love it all

We quickly notice that the power of this Dynaudio Emit 10 is that it can put down almost any genre nicely. There doesn’t seem to be a clear weakness in this speaker either (keeping the price in mind of course). Yes there are speakers that are more dynamic and lay down tracks more organized, but for the price of the Emit 10 we can’t really think of a model that handles various genres so well.

As a final test we put on Tool – Tempest. Although well mastered it is still a track that on most – neutrally tuned – speakers does not sound “nice” but is put down too well. Damn… this Dane has some balls! We would like to play the whole album; it is played with great enthusiasm. And also with a substantial mid / bass. The drumbeats fly from left to right for your imaging. We want to sit closer for maximum effect, the feet and knees move along and the head wants to too.

The bass line is easy to follow and the small effects are easily discernible. If you want to get the maximum result, the speaker stands still need to be filled (weighted) and it is advisable to decouple the stands from the floor with Isoacoustics feet for example. The resonance that we will feel by opening the volume from 25% to 30% (believe us… 30% is really overkill) can thus be remedied. The whole thing will then be tighter and also better organizationally we estimate. They are not cheap adjustments but these tweaks are really worth their money. With this performance, the Emit 10 makes us curious again about the large floorstanders of the series that better fit the size of your editor’s listening room.
