Measurements and conclusion

We put the Farad Super10 on our test bench to see how it stands up to Matthijs de Vries’ claims. Fortunately, we don’t see anything crazy. But let’s run through them.

Measurements Farad Super10

We see in the first graph the common mode and differential mode noise from 9 KHz to 1 MHz. The peak at 900 kHz is a DECT base station at our building. Unfortunately, it is not ours and we cannot turn it off. So you may ignore this one. We see no other problems. Great!

What is very nice to see is that the Farad Super10 does not care at all about the noise at the input. We used the programmable AC source to pollute the 230 volt line with noise and DC offsets, but we don’t see any of that on the output. So it’s ideal. And it shows that you don’t have to use the Farad in a filter.

Compared to the rest of our test field, the absolute noise is not the lowest. But the Farad is overall one of the cleanest, since we see no 50 Hz harmonics.

In terms of stability, we see neat values. The voltage drops slightly, but minimally. Well within margin. Even at 10 amps, the loss is minimal. It is more cable losses that we see here.

The test in which we have the power supply follow an input – sine and square wave – shows some weird behaviour… we thought. But after a call, we know it has everything to do with the design of this power supply. The DC output is practically a short circuit for the input we give it. The bottom end is cut off as you can see. We ran out of time to do this test again, unfortunately. But if we flip the top and pull through, we see a block and sine back.

Rounding

Farad has made another fine product. At just under 3000 Euros for a 10 amp power supply, it’s a niche it serves. But anyone looking for a clean, stable, handmade power supply for an NUC can’t ignore this Farad. Simple as that.

Conclusion

Farad puts out an insanely beautiful product with the Super10. The Farad Super10 sounds rich, big and brings a lot of harmony. Add to this the fact that the power supply does not care about mains contamination, there are countless voltages available ánd that it can power practically anything with 10A of current delivery... and then you also have mental peace...!

My latest experience with the super 10 and the bigger soundstage, is that the soundstage between the loudspeakers is logically bigger as well. There’s a bit overlap in the centre. So to get the textures of the guitar right in comparison with the super 3 is that the loudspeakers should have a bit more space in the middle. It my case it only took a few centimeters, but it highlights and focus details much better than.
