Plixir is becoming – now also in the Netherlands – a well-known player in the field of power products. We have already seen filters and power supplies made by Plixir: good stuff. Now it’s time for the top-of-the-line power cable: the Plixir Supreme Balanced Power Cable.
In the name of the Plixir Supreme one notices that it is a Balanced Power Cable. Now we know balanced XLR cables for signal. But for a power cable, it’s a bit new. At least, for us. Looking at the specifications and at the construction, we see a twisted pair construction in the cable. The “balanced power” will refer to that, we guess.
The conductors are special. They are UPOCC (Ultra Pure Ohno Continuous Casting Process) copper conductors. These are single crystal conductors developed in Japan by Professor Ohno (Chiba Institute of Technology). With his process, it is possible to make a conductor up to 125 meters from a single crystal. That’s impressive.
The Plixir Supreme has five of these conductors. We are assuming here that the earth/ground is also equipped with UPOCC. That is not always the case.
Furthermore, James Soh uses Furutech connectors: FI-E46 NCF to be exact. Nice connectors that are non-static and magnetic. Something that will cooperate in the playback quality.
High Current
The Plixir Supreme is suitable for high current loads. We used the cable mainly on our Pass Labs X150.8 power amplifier partly for this reason. That gave no problems at all.
