Measurements and Conclusion
Contents
We measured both of Teufel’s headphones (on our EARS measurement bench with REW software). It showed again how sensitive headphones are to placement on the head. We finally took the most favorable measurement and clamped the headphones lightly against the head (this significantly improves the low-end response because the seal is better, which also lowers distortion in the low-end). When we look at the measurements, we see a few striking things:
- The Real Blue NC measures better in terms of distortion in the low range
- Supreme ON measures overall slightly better in terms of distortion
- The Real Blue NC is a bit more powerfull in the bass than Supreme ON (audible too)
- Noise cancelling solves some problems, but introduces new ones:
- Impulse behavior is worse
- New distortion peak around 2500 Hz
- Tonal behavior is slightly different (but not very shockingly different… mid is a bit more compressed).
Within this price range, both headphones do not perform badly at all. The Real Blue NC even good in terms of distortion. The tonal balance is and remains a matter of taste. We like a neutral and open sound and these Teufels aim for a target group that is looking for some warmth in the reproduction. Although it is not very exaggerated (fortunately). For example: the Meze Classic is a solid headphone but is also warmer tuned.
