Older hi-fi systems, active speakers and other audio equipment often lack built-in streaming capabilities. The new HiFi Rose RW800 is designed to change that.
Also known as the ROSE AIR Lite, the compact RW800 can be discreetly integrated into virtually any hi-fi system or pair of active speakers. Despite its small footprint, it offers an impressive range of music streaming features. It supports most major streaming services, including Qobuz Connect, Tidal Connect and Spotify, while AirPlay 2 and Google Cast are also onboard. Thanks to AirPlay 2, the RW800 can even be used as part of a multiroom audio setup.
Two Operating Modes
One particularly interesting feature is that the RW800 offers two different operating modes.
The first is a fully stand-alone mode, in which the unit functions as a complete network streamer. This makes it an ideal upgrade for audio equipment that lacks built-in streaming support.
The second is Expansion Mode. In this configuration, the RW800 can be paired with an existing older HiFi Rose network streamer, bringing it up to date with the latest streaming services and connectivity options. Audio processing continues to be handled by the original streamer, which should help preserve its sound quality.
The RW800 is an attractive solution that could significantly extend the useful life of older hi-fi equipment. In doing so, it also helps reduce electronic waste by giving existing audio systems a second life instead of replacing them.
