The Final D8000 Pro Edition has a slightly different sound signature than the D8000. The middle and low-end come through more emphatically, making the headphones dynamic and powerful. The richness of detail and all the other goodies we observed on the D8000 are also present on the Pro Edition. The difference is subtle but still audible. It is indeed a slightly more compact soundstage, slightly more intimate, making it comparable to the sound of nearfield studio monitors.
The D8000 series is easy to drive. Already with a smartphone or simple media player, these headphones sound good. The Final D8000 Pro Edition really comes into its own when you connect an equivalent headphone amplifier to it. As with amplifiers and speakers, the match between headphones and an amplifier is crucial. The audio dealers that sell the D8000 series also have various options available for you, if you like. With us the match with the Burson Conductor V3 was fine; lots of dynamics and punch. The Sennheiser DVD800 and Mytek Brooklyn Bridge are much more neutral amplifiers, which we also hear when the D8000 is connected to them.
