NETGEAR announces a new series of switches (M4250) specifically for the growing market for audio and video over IP (AV over IP).
NETGEAR, Inc., the well-known provider of network products, announces a new series of switches (M4250) specifically for the growing audio and video over IP (AV over IP) market. These products, merged into one AV line, combine years of networking expertise with best practices from leading experts in the professional AV market, according to the manufacturer:
“NETGEAR has enhanced the experience for AV professionals with a completely new user interface. Pro AV customers don’t have to settle for an IT-centric interface with settings and IT-specific functionality they’ll never need, but get an interface specifically designed for their needs.”
The M4250 AV interface is equipped for common situations and commonly used platforms and apps.
AV professional
“Until now, AV professionals only had a small number of suitable options for network switches; they had to use IT products and learn how to make them work – resulting in a lot of frustration,” says Arend Karssies, Regional Director Benelux. “NETGEAR has worked closely with the Pro AV world to better understand the challenges they face. The result is this new AV line of M4250 switches with out-of-the-box functionality and user interface designed exclusively with the AV Pro in mind”
Audio Video Bridging
One of the many features designed in NETGEAR’s new M4250 product line is full support for Audio Video Bridging (AVB), an industry standard for transporting content over a network. AVB is typically used when very low latency is required, such as in live performances where timing is critical. All switches in the M4250 AV-lineup can be optionally licensed for AVB support.
PoE+
The new AV switches have 8 to 16 ports with both PoE+ (30W per port) and Ultra90 PoE++ (90W per port) options. There are also uplink options such as 1G uplink for audio installations or stand-alone video installations, and 10G uplinks for larger scale video installations. The NETGEAR AV Line M4250 series also includes 12-port multi-gigabit Ethernet and 1G/10G fiber models with 16 ports for plug-and-play aggregation in a fully automated star network.
Fan circuit
With software it is possible to switch off the fans if the ambient temperature and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) loads are suitable for fanless operation of the M4250 switches. For use in noise-sensitive environments such as conference rooms, recording studios and installations in and around the home, this offers new possibilities for the use of the AV line switches.
The new NETGEAR AV line of M4250 switches retains the same out-of-the-box functionality as the M4300 and M4500 switches.
