Synology presents DiskStation DS723+

Synology announces the introduction of the new 2-slot Synology DiskStation DS723+ equipped with a speedy AMD Ryzen CPU.

The new Synology DS723+ runs on the versatile operating system Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) and, according to the manufacturer, offers comprehensive solutions to protect and manage business data, easily collaborate on documents, remotely access files and monitor physical properties – all in a compact enclosure.

“This new device delivers impressive performance and capabilities for its size,” says Michael Wang, Product Manager at Synology. “With its extremely compact size, this solution is attractive to those who need a little less storage space, but want the benefits of a centralized storage solution and the ability to scale up in the future.”

Storage platform with expandability

The DS723+ is ‘ideal for collaboration within small teams, small businesses interested in centralized storage or as an edge node in geographically dispersed deployments’, according to Synology. When more capacity is needed, the device can scale up to 7 slots with a DX517 expansion unit’. Users can upgrade performance even further with the option to add 10GbE connectivity and M.2 NVMe SSD drives via the built-in PCIe slot. This provides opportunities for fast caching or to create additional all-flash storage pools.

Local storage with cloud integration

The DS723+ offers capabilities for intuitive file management and sharing with Synology Drive, which combines cross-platform file access with the privacy of local storage. For remote collaboration teams and multi-site businesses, cross-site file synchronization is also possible to mirror content between Synology devices. Synology Hybrid Share lets users enjoy the hybrid cloud: the benefits of local storage and cloud storage go hand in hand by keeping infrequently used data (so-called “cold data”) in the cloud, while frequently used files are cached on the local device for access at LAN speeds.

A backup center for multilayer data protection

Windows and Linux systems, Hyper-V or VMware virtual machines and Microsoft 365/Google Workspace accounts can be backed up to the DS723+ with Synology’s Active Backup Suite. This protects essential and sensitive data from ransomware and other cyber threats.

For a higher level of protection, users can also create backups and point-in-time snapshots of the data stored on the NAS, which can then be secured in another location or in the cloud.

A versatile and intuitive monitoring solution

With support for over 8,300 validated IP cameras and ONVIF devices, the powerful Synology Surveillance Station can turn the DS723+ into a full-fledged video management system that securely stores video footage on location.

Users can quickly set up and manage up to 40 cameras through a modern and customizable interface, and even add floor maps or Google Maps/Open StreetMap maps for monitoring larger buildings or building complexes. Simple and effective failover between recording servers, management of multiple devices, and the option to record video footage simultaneously to the Synology C2 cloud: all increase system resilience and availability of important recordings.
