A small but growing trend is emerging around fully AI-generated music. Qobuz and Bandcamp are saying no to it.
It may not come as a surprise that music streaming platforms which place a strong emphasis on quality choose to reject AI-generated music. Qobuz — and Bandcamp as well — are doing exactly that, according to an article on enjoythemusic.com. Qobuz argues that music is fundamentally rooted in human expression, and they certainly have a point there. At the same time, one could question how much human creativity is sometimes still involved in modern music production — but that discussion has been ongoing for years.
Modern music is, after all, largely created using software. The key difference, however, is that the final result is still very much shaped by people: tracks are mixed by humans and vocals are performed by humans — whether or not aided by tools such as Auto-Tune.
In any case, the chances of encountering fully AI-generated music on Qobuz or Bandcamp are virtually zero. Unless, of course, something happens to slip through the cracks.
