Hifi is a fascinating hobby. It requires the necessary knowledge to put together a solid system. This requires knowledge from various disciplines. Think of acoustics, electronics, recording technology, et cetera. In short: no sinecure to gather all that knowledge! However, we often forget one thing: ourselves. How do we actually experience hi-fi? How do we know if something is good?
These seem like easy questions to answer, but they are not. Go figure: how does perception work? How do we know what the recording engineer’s intention was? Or the artist? How can we actually check if a result is really true?
About these things Ole Witthoft of System Audio and your Author are going to have a good talk. We go over a visit to Purifi who has a new tweeter, to recording techniques and even Buddhism. After all: the brain and all thoughts also play a big role in experiencing music.
