Another major acquisition in the audio world: Gentex Corporation has purchased VOXX International, bringing a host of notable brands into its portfolio.

Recently, the hi-fi industry has been witnessing a flurry of buying and selling activity. Now, Gentex Corporation has made a $196 million deal to acquire VOXX International. Under VOXX’s umbrella are prominent names like Jamo, Klipsch, Magnat, Heco, Teac, Esoteric, and more. What’s striking about this deal is that both Gentex and VOXX are technically “non-audio” companies, a trend that seems to be becoming more common.

Founded in 1974, Gentex specializes in automatic dimming rearview mirrors for the automotive industry, dimmable aircraft windows, and fire-resistance products. VOXX, while also “non-audio” in origin, has a slightly closer connection to the audio market, offering car theft security systems as well as in-car entertainment equipment.
