IKEA will no longer release any new ‘SYMFONISK’ speakers, marking the end of its collaboration with Sonos.
The concept was charming: relatively affordable (smart) speakers available at IKEA, powered by Sonos technology under the hood. It offered an attractive way for furniture shoppers to also bring home a decent piece of audio gear. Over the past few years, the collaboration produced several models, including a lamp with a built-in speaker.
However, the joint project between the two companies has now officially come to an end. If you’re still hoping to pick up an IKEA speaker, you might want to act fast — existing inventory will continue to be sold while supplies last, but once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Both Sonos and IKEA have promised that existing SYMFONISK speakers will continue to be supported for years to come, so there’s no need to worry about longevity.
There is a hidden secret in the Ikea/sono speaker range. For some strange reason the Eneby 30 GEN 2 speaker was only available for 2 weeks and then it just vanished of the shelves of all Ikea warehouses here in Sweden. It was the first Ikea speaker that could be used as a stereo pair via Bluetooth. After the shock of the sound quality as a stereo pair, my friend and i took my pair to our local Hifi Klubben to try them with good pair of power cables, the result was crazy. Very impressive stereo image, 3D and deep bass.
Probably too good? 🙂
Too good is an understatement 🙂
