British brand Monitor Audio introduces the new Vestra Subwoofer Series. This entirely new range is, according to the company, “designed to expand Monitor Audio’s standalone subwoofer lineup for the Home AV and Custom Installation market. It offers greater flexibility for both consumers and integrators by providing more system-matching options across different budgets.”
Developed alongside the recently launched premium Anthra Series Subwoofers, each of the three Vestra models – the W10, W12 and W15 – features an acoustic package that, according to the manufacturer, “embodies Monitor Audio’s Transparent Design Philosophy.” This design approach merges superior design, intuitive user experience, and advanced acoustic engineering, ensuring that performance, technology and aesthetics work in harmony.
Visually, the Vestra Series is understated and modern in design, blending into virtually any interior.
C-CAM High-Linear Excursion Bass Drivers
The Monitor Audio Vestra subwoofers use the company’s proprietary C-CAM cone technology (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium) – a material said to be perfectly suited for subwoofer applications. “C-CAM offers a stronger, lighter and more fatigue-resistant cone capable of greater pistonic excursion under high stress compared to standard aluminium designs.”
Behind the C-CAM cones are powerful new motor systems featuring triple suspensions (on the W12 and W15), improved venting, and oversized, round-wound voice coils made of high-purity copper. These design choices aim to provide greater precision at extremely low frequencies, better airflow for cooling, and maximum field strength. FEA optimisation of the steel motor components further reduces distortion by enhancing magnetic linearity.
The outer surrounds of the bass drivers have also been carefully engineered to maintain maximum excursion without overloading or introducing distortion. The result is a subwoofer with exceptional bass performance—fast, controlled, powerful, and musical.
Powerful Amplification
Each C-CAM driver is backed by a dedicated Class-D amplifier:
- W10: 250 watts
- W12 & W15: 500 watts
Each amplifier is tuned to its respective driver, optimised for efficiency and low distortion. They also offer extensive connectivity options, including unbalanced stereo RCA, LFE RCA inputs, DSP presets for in-room optimisation, and a 12V trigger input.
Robust Cabinet Construction
Vestra cabinets are made from reinforced 15 mm thick MDF, internally braced, and finished in either matte black or matte white vinyl. The front baffle is 21 mm thick and painted matte. The bracing improves structural integrity and reduces unwanted cabinet resonances for cleaner sound.
