It took a while, but the Ruark MR1 MK3 has finally arrived – the third iteration of this active desktop speaker.

Compact and active speakers for your desk or any other space-constrained area remain as popular as ever. After all, they offer an all-in-one solution. The Ruark MR1 MK3 perfectly fits that category, now in its third generation. Compared to its predecessor, the still pleasantly compact speaker cabinets have been slightly enlarged. This was done to accommodate a slightly bigger 8.5 cm NS+ mid/bass driver. According to the manufacturer, the crossover and bass reflex port have also been redesigned and fine-tuned to deliver a “significant leap in acoustic performance.” The 20 mm silk dome tweeter remains unchanged.

Class D, USB-C, and Phono Input

The drivers are now powered by a Class D amplifier, a change from the previous models which used Class A/B amplification. In terms of connectivity, you get Bluetooth with aptX HD support, plus a combined optical and AUX input. New additions include a USB-C input and a phono input. If you’d like even more low-end punch, the MR1 MK3 features a sub-out for connecting an external subwoofer.

Finish options include “rich walnut” and “charcoal lacquer.”

The Ruark MR1 MK3 is available now for €479. Due to tariffs, the price in the U.S. is significantly higher, at $579.
