The Cyrus 40 PPA phono preamplifier — designed and built in the UK — offers a remarkably comprehensive array of features.

According to the manufacturer, the Cyrus 40 PPA phono preamp has been completely redesigned from the ground up, with the goal of shielding delicate phono signals as effectively as possible from external interference. Naturally, this should result in an exceptionally pure and clean sound signature. The unit supports both MM (moving magnet) and MC (moving coil) cartridges, and allows for the simultaneous connection of up to four turntables — each with independently configurable settings. These include gain control in 5 dB steps, as well as capacitance adjustments.

One of the standout features of the 40 PPA is its ultra-low-noise power supply, which is said to deliver high dynamic range with minimal distortion. The circuit board layout has also been optimized to reduce inherent background noise. An integrated VU meter with peak-and-hold function helps fine-tune the gain settings — especially useful for MC cartridges.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, the 40 PPA offers both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs and outputs. There’s also a convenient ground lift switch that allows you to float the ground — ideal for eliminating ground loops and the hum they can cause. Finally, a USB-A port is included for firmware updates.

The Cyrus 40 PPA will be available starting July (aka available now!), at a suggested retail price of €2495.
