Good news for anyone with a collection of SACDs: Shanling is releasing a brand-new player designed especially for them — the SCD3.3!
Although SACD never truly broke through with the general public, it certainly has a loyal group of enthusiasts. And over the years, many of them have undoubtedly built up a sizeable SACD library. Unfortunately, the number of players capable of handling these discs is not particularly large. That’s why it’s great to see Shanling investing in the format again with the upcoming SCD3.3 SACD player.
The unit supports both SACDs and standard CDs and also doubles as a DAC. For that purpose, USB, coaxial, and I2S inputs are available. The DAC itself is an R2R design built from 192 ultra-precise (0.01%) resistors. Bluetooth 5.0 is also on board, supporting aptX HD, LDAC, AAC, and the old familiar SBC codec.
More detailed information is not yet available, but something very promising is clearly on the way. We’d recommend keeping a close eye on the manufacturer’s website in the coming period. There’s also good news for owners of the SMT1.3 streamer: installing the newly released firmware update adds full Roon Ready certification.
