Pro-Ject has launched a new flagship model: the CD Box RS2 Tube, a CD player featuring tubes in the output stage.
Great news for fans of both CDs and the warm sound of tubes: the Pro-Ject CD Box RS2 Tube. This is a CD transport with a built-in DAC (so it can indeed be called a CD player) and vacuum tubes in the output stage. It is a pure, dedicated CD player, based on a SUOS DM-3381 Red Book mechanism with a BlueTiger CD-88 servo. SUOS itself was founded by former Philips CD engineers—from the days when Philips was still a globally leading company in consumer electronics and beyond. The unit reads audio CDs only, allowing it to focus entirely on performing one specific task as well as possible.
For the output stage, Pro-Ject has opted for a fully balanced design built around two E88CC tubes. In terms of outputs, users can choose between balanced XLR or standard RCA. If you prefer to bypass the internal DAC and tube output stage, that is also possible thanks to the available digital outputs.
The CD Box RS2 Tube is priced at £1,749 and will be available in black or silver. Availability is expected later this month.
