For vinyl purists, listening via the much-maligned digital Bluetooth connection may sound like a nightmare scenario. For many younger users, however, that is not the case at all. They have largely – or entirely – grown up with Bluetooth headphones and speakers. For them, vinyl is often more of a statement about embracing the “real” vinyl experience. In that context, the limited-edition TEAC 400BT X/TB Bluetooth turntable makes a lot of sense. Even its trendy turquoise finish harks back, stylistically at least, to the 1960s.
This belt-driven turntable offers three speeds: 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm. On the Bluetooth side, it supports aptX, aptX Adaptive, and the classic SBC codec. Unfortunately, AAC is not included, even though many headphones support that format (sometimes exclusively). Should you prefer a wired setup, the built-in phono preamp – which is required anyway – also provides a physical output for connection to external equipment.
From the factory, the TEAC 400BT X/TB comes fitted with an Audio-Technica AT95E MM cartridge. In other words, it is fully plug-and-play. The price is set at $629.99. The model is based on an existing version, but at the time of writing, no information about this special edition can be found on the manufacturer’s website or Facebook page.
