The company Sennheiser is up for sale, as its Swiss owner looks to divest the brand and refocus on its core business.
Sonova, a manufacturer of medical hearing aids and cochlear implants, acquired Sennheiser in 2021 as a strategic addition to its portfolio. However, that enthusiasm has now faded, and Sennheiser is being put up for sale. The reason: the Swiss company wants to concentrate once again on its own core activities. It marks yet another case of a medical and industry-external company struggling to successfully integrate an audio brand.
What the future holds for Sennheiser remains to be seen. Much will depend on the type of company or investor that ultimately takes over. In today’s market, that could just as easily be a company from China, for example.
In short, interesting—and potentially turbulent—times lie ahead for the renowned brand known for its headphones, microphones and more.
