Spotify is introducing a new feature for its Windows app: Exclusive Mode, designed to deliver bit-perfect audio playback.
On desktop operating systems, multiple programs and system processes typically have access to a computer’s audio hardware. This can result in audio streams of different bitrates and resolutions being mixed behind the scenes, often leading to a reduction in overall sound quality so everything can be played simultaneously. For purists, this is far from ideal.
That is why Spotify has now introduced Exclusive Mode for Windows. When enabled, the Spotify app gains exclusive access to the sound card, blocking other applications from using it. This ensures a bit-perfect audio stream, preserving the original sound quality without any degradation.
This feature aligns perfectly with Spotify’s recently introduced lossless streaming, which the platform has finally rolled out after years of anticipation.
The feature is currently available for Windows, with a release for macOS expected at a later stage.
