German Loewe is acquiring French Cabasse, aiming to give its own audio product range a significant boost.
Loewe—now owned by the Slovakian Skytec Group—is taking over Cabasse, it announces on LinkedIn (see screenshot above). Mergers and acquisitions in the hi-fi and high-end AV world have become increasingly common. In many cases, companies end up in the hands of investors from regions such as the US or China, which does not always benefit quality or continuity—especially when the acquiring party has little connection to the industry.
Fortunately, that does not appear to be the case with Loewe. The company is known for its high-end televisions, making the addition of equally high-quality audio products a logical step. Another positive aspect is that all parties involved are based within the EU. Loewe itself announced the acquisition via LinkedIn.
At the same time, Loewe has been steadily expanding its presence in the US, targeting the premium segment—an area where Cabasse also fits naturally. Loewe has previously recovered from a difficult period and appears to have successfully reinvented itself. Luxury is the key theme here, and there is always a market for that. With Cabasse on board, that strategy may become even easier to execute.
