Dorpo is a new name in the world of audio and video and introduces its versatile DMP-A1 streamer, a device that can handle just about “everything.”
On paper, the Dorpo DMP-A1 already looks very promising. This streamer supports all major music streaming services, including Qobuz, Tidal, Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. It is also Roon Ready and supports AirPlay, Bluetooth and other network streaming features. Maximum supported PCM resolution reaches up to 32-bit / 768 kHz. File formats such as FLAC, WAVE, APE and even MQA are supported, while DSD playback up to DSD512 is no problem at all. At the heart of the DAC section is the ESS ES9039sPro chip.
Fully balanced analog stage
The unit is controlled via a user-friendly interface, with a smartphone or tablet app mirroring the player’s on-screen display—always a practical solution. In terms of physical connectivity, there is a wide range of options, including coaxial and optical inputs, asynchronous USB and, of course, analog outputs. Internally, the DMP-A1 features a fully balanced analog design. A linear power supply feeds the analog section, while a separate low-noise switching power supply handles the digital circuitry. Both supplies automatically adapt to different mains voltages worldwide.
Built-in headphone amplifier and SSD support
Headphone users are also well catered for thanks to the built-in headphone amplifier. You can choose between a 6.35 mm single-ended and a 4.4 mm balanced output. External storage devices can be connected via USB, and for those who want more, there is an internal slot for an M.2 NVMe SSD, supporting capacities of up to 8 TB. The system runs on FunPlayUI, a derivative of the well-known Android platform.
All in all, an impressive set of specifications, with the Chinese manufacturer clearly demonstrating that high-quality products can come from that part of the world as well. The Dorpo DMP-A1 is priced at €2,100 and is available from the beginning of the second quarter of this year—so, essentially, right about now.
