At the recent High End Vienna exhibition, Yamaha introduced its new NX-70A active and smart loudspeaker system.

The Yamaha NX-70A is designed as a two-way speaker system, featuring a 13 cm Harmonious Diaphragm Cone Type woofer and a matching 3 cm tweeter. Its Harmonious Diaphragm technology is Yamaha’s own development, designed to provide a consistent tonal character across the entire frequency range. The cone material is based on ZYLON, a high-performance fibre manufactured by Japanese company TOYOBO MC.

Both drivers in the speaker are powered by Yamaha’s proprietary Synergistic Drive technology. In this configuration, the drivers are connected directly to the amplifier outputs. According to Yamaha, this approach is possible because the drivers have been designed as a perfectly matched pair.

Room Correction and Multiroom

Yamaha’s Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) provides room correction, helping to optimise sound reproduction regardless of the listening environment.

Control is handled through a smartphone app, while MusicCast enables music and TV audio to be streamed to other compatible MusicCast devices throughout the home, allowing for a convenient multiroom setup.

Streaming and Connectivity

The NX-70A supports popular streaming platforms including TIDAL Connect and Spotify Connect, while also being Roon Ready. Apple AirPlay and Google Cast are included as well. Wireless connectivity is provided via Bluetooth with SBC and AAC codec support. HDMI eARC/ARC makes integration with televisions straightforward and convenient.

One particularly practical feature is the wireless connection between the left and right speakers, eliminating the need for a speaker cable between the two. Each speaker does, however, require its own mains power connection.

The Yamaha NX-70A will be available in both black and white finishes at a retail price of €2,999.
