Compact audio systems are more popular than ever, and the new Cambridge Audio L/R X active speakers fit that trend perfectly. Simply plug them in—or connect wirelessly—and start listening.
One of the biggest advantages of active speakers is that there’s no need for a separate integrated amplifier or power amp. Just place them where you want, connect them, and you’re ready to go. That’s exactly the idea behind the new Cambridge Audio L/R X. In addition to modern wireless capabilities, the speakers also feature traditional wired inputs, including MM phono and HDMI eARC, making them an excellent companion for a TV as well.
Of course, we live in the age of streaming, whether from online services or a NAS on your home network. Thanks to Cambridge Audio’s built-in StreamMagic platform, the L/R X speakers can handle it all. Supported services include Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect Lossless, Amazon Music, and Deezer. The speakers are also Roon Ready, while UPnP support makes it easy to play music stored elsewhere on your home network. Internet radio is included too.
Wireless or wired coupling
Wireless connectivity extends to Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Cast, making multiroom audio setups easy to create. The two speakers can be linked either wirelessly via the WiSA HT standard or with a USB-C cable, depending on your preference. In both cases, the maximum supported sampling rate is 96 kHz. Control is handled through the Cambridge Audio app for iOS and Android, which allows you to adjust a 7-band equalizer and configure room correction, among other settings.
The crossover is managed by an onboard DSP, while each stereo pair incorporates a total of six power amplifiers. The two mid-woofers are each driven with up to 135 watts RMS, giving the complete system a combined output of 800 watts RMS. Each speaker houses five drivers: two 5-inch mid-woofers, two passive radiators (strictly speaking not drivers, of course), and a 28 mm Torus tweeter.
The Cambridge Audio L/R X is available immediately in white, black, midnight blue, racing green, and orange. A version finished in real walnut veneer is also available. The coloured models are priced at €1,999 per pair, while the walnut veneer edition retails for €2,099 per pair.
