Monitor Audio Launches Its Most Versatile Silver Series Yet

Monitor Audio has introduced what it describes as its most versatile Silver Series yet, based on the company’s Transparent Design Philosophy.

Monitor Audio is ‘proud’ to introduce the Silver Series 8G. Built on the foundations of Monitor Audio’s Transparent Design Philosophy, it represents what the company says is the most refined and technologically advanced Silver Series platform it has ever developed. Thanks to meticulous engineering and optimisation, Monitor Audio says the Silver Series 8G has one clear objective: ‘to set a new benchmark for hi-fi performance at its price point’.

The Silver Series 8G consists of seven completely new models, designed for both high-performance two-channel listening and ‘fully immersive’ multi-channel configurations. The range now also includes a highly flexible On-Wall model for what the manufacturer describes as ‘a variety of less-intrusive stereo and surround applications’. It scales from compact, high-performance 5.1 systems all the way up to complete Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 installations, making it as powerful as it is flexible. According to Monitor Audio, every model has been designed to perform beautifully, regardless of system configuration or room.

Acoustic Performance

At the heart of the Silver Series 8G is a range of significant technological improvements, each of which, according to Monitor Audio, has been developed to raise the performance benchmark for the series.

C-CAM with RST III

For nearly 40 years, Monitor Audio has been at the forefront of metal cone driver technology. At the heart of the Silver Series 8G range is its proprietary C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) technology, now enhanced with the latest generation of RST III (Rigid Surface Technology). This evolved cone geometry increases structural rigidity while simultaneously minimising unwanted resonances. As a result, greater accuracy, control and transparency are possible across the entire frequency range,’ the announcement reads.

To further improve high-frequency performance, Monitor Audio’s acoustic engineers have refined the latest generation of the iconic C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter, effectively a hallmark of the brand since the 1980s. ‘Thanks to an optimised vented rear chamber, a newly engineered shorting ring and the latest UD Waveguide II, the result is smoother and more natural treble reproduction, with improved clarity, consistency and dispersion,’ according to the manufacturer.

‘Silent Flow’ Port Technology

The Silver Series 8G features a clever new port technology that, according to Monitor Audio, considerably extends the performance envelope compared with the outgoing series: ‘The design is inspired by the interlocking flight feathers of an owl’s wings and uses a larger diameter and innovative flare geometry. As a result, airflow is guided more smoothly and quietly, reducing turbulence while producing cleaner, deeper bass.

New Crossover Design

The new crossover network uses higher-quality components throughout, the manufacturer says. Consequently, the signal is ‘divided precisely, colouration is kept to a minimum and a cleaner, more transparent signal path is created. This results in tighter driver integration and a more coherent soundstage.

Design

For convenience, we’ve listed all the design-related features below, in the manufacturer’s own words:

Engineered Wood

The European Walnut veneer is made from real, fully engineered wood. Layers of sustainably sourced timber are carefully built up to recreate the rich grain and colour of exotic woods. In this way, a luxurious and consistent finish can be achieved without harvesting rare or endangered tree species.

Through-Bolt Driver Bracing

Thanks to Through-Bolt Driver Bracing, the drivers are securely braced to the rear of the enclosure and tightened to a specific torque. This creates a rigid connection between driver and cabinet while simultaneously helping to eliminate unwanted chassis resonances.

New Outrigger Feet

The completely new Outrigger feet are inspired by the flagship Platinum Series 3G and provide a wider, more stable foundation. A discreet top-mounted adjustment mechanism allows the speaker to be precisely levelled. In addition, the spikes can be replaced with integrated rubber feet to protect hard flooring.
