We’ve had pendant and floor lamps in our living rooms for quite some time now. So why not add the Ruka Studio TD-1 hanging turntable to the mix?

At first glance, it looks like a floor lamp. However, where you would normally expect to find a light bulb, you can now put on a record instead. In other words, this is a rather unusually designed turntable, created by former Apple designers who have started their own studio. And their first product certainly looks distinctive.

The turntable features an aluminium body and, as the designers proudly promise, switches that ‘actually click’. Those controls are used for functions such as playback, rotational speed, and Bluetooth pairing. Meanwhile, a magnetic clamp keeps your vinyl firmly in place—hardly an unnecessary luxury considering the turntable’s hanging orientation.

A replaceable MM cartridge is included. On the output side, an RCA connection is provided. However, if you prefer to keep things as wireless as possible, Bluetooth is available as well.

The belt-driven Ruka Studio TD-1 has an introductory price of $1,399. Moreover, its creators have already stated that this will be the lowest price ever offered for the turntable.

Apart from the stand-mounted configuration we’ve seen elsewhere, the TD-1 can also be mounted neatly on a wall, as shown in the screenshot above.
