Do you happen to have such substantial financial reserves that you simply don’t know what to do with them? In that case, you might want to take a look at the limited-edition Velodyne Acoustics 1824.
The Velodyne Acoustics 1824 is a limited-production high-end subwoofer. And given that exclusivity, you may need to act quickly—or risk another well-heeled enthusiast getting there before you. The subwoofer can reproduce frequencies down to an astonishing 7 Hz, backed by a peak output of 10 kilowatts. Three built-in power amplifier stages provide a combined 6 kilowatts RMS, driving three enormous units—a combination of 18-inch and 24-inch drivers—to pump all that low-frequency energy into your living room, lounge, or private cinema.
Although it could easily be regarded as something of an anniversary model, the manufacturer itself doesn’t describe it that way. Instead, Velodyne sees the 1824 as the tangible result of more than 40 years of experience developing low-frequency drivers. According to the company, its latest creation offers enormous reserves of power while maintaining precision and composure.
Double power connections
To keep all that power under control, the 1824 features two mains power connections, helping to prevent individual power cables from becoming overloaded. A dedicated app has also been developed to control the subwoofer, allowing it to be precisely adjusted to the listening room as well as to your personal preferences.
According to Velodyne Acoustics, the 1824 is designed for both high-end hi-fi and home cinema applications. Inputs include conventional RCA connections as well as balanced XLR. This heavyweight measures 140 x 77 x 60.7 cm and tips the scales at approximately 350 kilograms.
And then there’s the price. The Velodyne Acoustics 1824 will set you back €49,999. However, with only 50 units scheduled to be made, you probably shouldn’t spend too long thinking about it. The subwoofer was unveiled at the recent High End show, and it is now expected to enter production this coming winter.
