The streaming platform Disney Plus, which was launched not so long ago, is doing much better than even Disney itself had thought.
Disney Plus now has 94.9 million subscribers. The goal – it was suggested at the launch of the platform in late 2019 – was to reach 90 million subscribers after four years. So that goal has already been reached.
The number of actual subscribers, by the way, is most likely even higher, as it was measured on January 2 of this year. In the meantime, we are almost a month and a half further on.

Disney Plus is still far from the 200 million paying subscribers that the “king of streamers” Netflix has. Still, it’s quite an accomplishment to have already pulled in about half of that number within two years. The predictions are now, that Disney Plus will have between 230 and 260 million subscribers by 2024.
Unfortunately, we do see that the streamer’s subscription fee is being increased. From a monthly fee of €6.99 to €8.99 may make it less interesting for new subscribers. And also existing users may start scratching their heads.
The €6.99 was fun as an additional streaming service; after the increase, many viewers may have to make a choice: will it definitely be Netflix or Disney Plus? Time will tell what impact that will make below the line.
