Netflix is implementing a hefty price increase in its cheapest ad-free subscription Basic. For now, only in the US and UK.
Everywhere we see streamers raising their subscription prices, sometimes substantially. The latter applies to Netflix, where the Basic subscription will cost as much as $5.50 more per month suddenly (from $9.99 to $15.49). The price increase in the UK is also significant: from £6.99 to £10.99 per month. Earlier, the video streamer raised its prices in Canada. Only plus for now is, that these prices only apply to new subscribers. Existing customers will continue to pay the old lower prices for now.
Critical watch and cancel subscriptions
It seems only a matter of time before Netflix starts charging higher prices in the rest of the world as well. Since other streamers are also getting more and more expensive, as mentioned above, more people will have to start making choices. Whereas it was “once” perfectly feasible to subscribe to more than one streamer (video or music), nowadays this quickly becomes an overpriced financial burden. Furthermore, illegal downloading of content will undoubtedly increase again when people no longer have the money (to spare) for streaming services. Plan B is to switch to a subscription with ads, but ultimately you can ask yourself whether that is a sustainable sales model. After all, if you pay for streaming and then still get forced commercials with it, that too misses the point.
Netflix increases all prices from september this year. My subscription goes to €17,99. So €18,-
