It’s important to update your TV with LG WebOS as soon as possible. Because of a serious leak in WebOS that can have nasty consequences.
It’s one of those drawbacks of smart televisions: vulnerabilities in the OS they run on. LG WebOS has been hit by a serious security vulnerability that allows hackers to access your device and privacy-sensitive data. It affects TVs from in 2019 onwards and affects the entire line of OLED, QNED and LCD sets with the said operating system on board. The leak gives access to account data and payment services linked to those accounts. Once that data is in the hands of cyber thieves, a TV can also be deployed as part of a botnet. Such a botnet can be misused to carry out attacks on yet other computer systems.
Check immediately whether an update for LG WebOS is available on your TV. If so, update immediately. Or, if you never use the smart part anyway: unplug the network cable from the TV and (or) disconnect the Wi-Fi connection of the TV and your wireless home network.
It’s a disappointment that the new LG WebOS is so slow and clunky. Maybe the next update will be better?
