British company Audioscenic has introduced a new standard for spatial audio: Amphi Hi-D, designed for devices like monitors and laptops.
Audioscenic is rolling out its innovative Amphi Hi-D surround standard cautiously. Initially, it will be implemented in monitors and laptops, but the system is scalable, ranging from three-speaker setups in ultrathin notebooks to six-channel gaming monitors. The technology is also suitable for media entertainment systems such as soundbars or in-car audio setups.
The standout feature of the new format is its user-tracking capability, which uses AI to deliver continuously optimized sound tailored to the listener’s position. Additionally, Audioscenic highlights advanced crosstalk cancellation to ensure seamless cooperation between speakers.
Will It Succeed?
Can Amphi Hi-D compete with established standards like Dolby Atmos or DTS:X? It remains uncertain. Manufacturers must be willing to invest in licensing a new technology that already has existing solutions. However, the head-tracking feature could appeal to gamers—provided it works flawlessly and delivers a smooth experience.
As always, time will tell whether Amphi Hi-D can carve out its place in the market.
