Sony to sell its home entertainment division to TCL

Striking news from the corporate world: Sony has announced that progress has been made in the sale of its home entertainment business to TCL.

Chinese companies are steadily acquiring more major brands. After names like Philips and IBM (in the computer sector) previously moved eastward, it now appears to be Sony’s home entertainment division’s turn. Although the acquisition is still at an early stage, developments are so far proceeding according to plan. Ultimately, the intention is to form a joint venture in which Sony will hold a 49% stake and TCL 51%. The new company is set to operate globally.

What this will mean for well-known products such as Bravia televisions is, of course, still unclear. It is worth noting that TCL is known for its aversion to OLED panels and instead focuses heavily on Mini LED technology. In short, it remains a matter of wait and see how this will all unfold.
