Apple’s newly announced tvOS 27 operating system for its Apple TV set-top boxes includes a number of welcome audio enhancements.

For owners of an iPhone, iPad—or both—an Apple TV is a worthwhile investment. The devices are reasonably priced, but their biggest advantage lies in the fact that many apps originally purchased for iPhone and iPad can also be installed and used on Apple TV. This opens up a world of possibilities beyond the usual music and video streaming services, including gaming, web browsing and much more on the big screen.

The new version of Apple TV’s operating system, announced earlier this month, includes several interesting upgrades for audio enthusiasts.

One of the most notable improvements is a significant boost for Apple Music. With tvOS 27, users will be able to listen to tracks in resolutions of up to 24-bit / 192 kHz. The Podcasts app has also received a complete redesign, integrating both audio and video podcasts into a single, unified experience.

Optimisation and Refinement

According to Apple, this year is focused on refinement and optimisation across its operating systems. As a result, Apple TV users can expect a smoother and more responsive experience overall. The company promises faster app launches, more fluid animations and a quicker Control Center. In short, the entire user experience should feel more polished and responsive.

What many users would probably like to see next is a new version of the Apple TV hardware itself. The current model is already four years old. On the other hand, releasing a new version every year would arguably make little sense—although the same could be said of smartphones, tablets and computers.

The tvOS 27 update will become available later this year and will support the second- and third-generation Apple TV 4K models.
